Ongoing work

The things that come around every year

Most clients start with one of these three and keep the relationship running. Each is handled directly by Lam.

Taxes

Returns and year-round planning

Federal and state returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations and C corporations. Planning happens through the year, not in April, so filing season turns up no surprises.

  • Multi-state and prior-year filings
  • Quarterly estimates
  • IRS and state notice response

Bookkeeping

Books a lender will accept

Monthly or quarterly close, reconciliations, and clean-up of records that got away from you. The goal is books that hold up the day a bank, a buyer or the IRS asks to see them.

  • Bank and card reconciliation
  • Catch-up and clean-up work
  • QuickBooks setup and review

Payroll

Runs, filings and year-end forms

Payroll processing plus the filings that follow it - quarterly 941s, annual W-2s and 1099s, and Texas Workforce Commission reporting.

  • Payroll processing
  • Forms 941 and 940
  • W-2 and 1099 preparation
  • New hire and TWC reporting

Compilation · Review · Audit

Your bank asked for a reviewed financial statement.

Those three services mean three different levels of assurance, three different amounts of work, and three different price tags. Here is what you are actually being asked for.

Compilation

I put your financial statements into proper form from the records you provide. I don't test them or express an opinion - the statements remain yours.

Usually asked for byInternal use, landlords, smaller lenders

Review

Limited assurance

Analytical procedures and inquiry, ending in a statement that I'm not aware of any material modifications the statements need to conform with the applicable framework.

Usually asked for byMost bank loan covenants, surety bonding
03GAAS

Audit

Reasonable assurance

The highest level. Substantive testing, third-party confirmations and evidence gathering, concluding in a formal opinion on whether the statements are fairly stated in all material respects.

Usually asked for byLarger lenders, investors, grant funders, regulators

Not sure which one your lender wants? Forward the request letter and Lam will tell you — that part is free.

About me

Eighteen years of audit, behind your books

Lam spent his career at Deloitte, Ernst & Young and MaloneBailey — where he made senior manager and ran the private audit practice — before opening his own firm in Houston in 2025.

It means the person doing your books has spent eighteen years on the other side of the audit, applying the standards your lender is about to apply to you. And it is a solo practice, so the CPA who answers the phone is the one who signs the return.
